Air Pressure

Air Pressure, as an idea, provokes a strong interest in juxtaposing colours that are quite artificial looking, at least not too natural or pastoral etc. I made a strong connection between the MO and personal memories of reading and watching Science Fiction – I couldn’t get airlocks out of my head for some reason (hence the use of inter-locking squares in the starting design) and the colours suggested by very clean, laboratory-type conditions, or maybe jars and tanks containing a range of gases needed to conduct experiments. The ‘seal’ of the air comes to mind too although this is difficult to relate to in terms of colour as such. So, the blue-green starting this piece should provoke a palette, including quite dramatic tonal contrasts, that suit my thinking & emotional response to the MO.
