‘Railing Against’ – St.Mary’s Church, Putney

A series of banners (an unordered time line) hung on the railings outside the church advertising various social fundraising events. Reflecting on the sanctity of a space or surface within the urban environment. As the weight and volume of information generated in today’s world increases are there (m)any places deemed unsuitable to display ? ‘Time was’ when the borders were perhaps more clearly defined, or at least less prominent (the lamp post – now a totem for laminated ‘lost pets’ signs, the chain link fence by a level crossing in Barnes – a noticeboard for yoga classes, dog walking and landscape gardener services, furniture sales and coffee mornings).
