‘A Guiding Light’ – Villiers Street, WC2

A homeless woman crouched on an opened copy of the Evening Standard (a kind of prayer mat). At her feet stands a large Starbucks cup, placed to receive any fiscal donations. She remains silent and motionless, eyes cast downward. A paradox of sorts. Marginalised, ignored, acknowledged (from time to time) and yet ‘dependent’ on the product placement trappings that grease the wheels of the consumer machine.
