‘Mortal Remains’ – Carlisle Lane, SE1

Walking past an open archway door. A rare glimpse into the former inner sanctum of the departure point on the permanent way. Necropolis. Where once lay coffins, in lieu of a final exodus to Surrey, now stands stacked a charnel house of chairs. This hallowed space today occupied by office furniture. The metaphorical shroud being drawn over a Victorian venture by the onset of total industrial war (1941).
