‘A Dispersal Policy’ – Chelsea Embankment

A patrol car speeds eastwards. Lights on and flashing sirens wailing. The traffic jam ahead attempts to move to one side, a kind of metallic parting of the waves. A strange and awkward dance as the emergency vehicle glides to an inevitable temporary halt until a clear channel is negotiated. The juxtaposition between compliance and obedience (in the presence of the emergency services) and unrestrained competition and aggression (left to the whims of fellow motorists being courteous to each other).
